Hope on the Slopes

 

Celebrating winter fun, Hope on the Slopes is a unique on-snow event open to all who hope to make a difference in the lives of local pediatric patients facing life-threatening illnesses.

A collaborative effort between The Kylie Jane Long Foundation and Boston Mills/Brandy wine Resort, Hope on the Slopes celebrates all who want to make a difference in the world of a child.

When: February 27, 2010 (All Day Saturday).  The Registration table opens at 9am.

Where: All events at Boston Mills except the Cardboard Box Race (at Polar Blast)

What: Teams and individuals register to ski/snowboard/snow tube in a relay format for 12 hours and raise funds based on pledges and team sponsorships.  See the list of events below!

Cardboard Box Race - Saturday 2/27 @ 10am

Imagine racing down the hill in a cardboard craft of your own design! Up to 6 people can race per sled and winners will be awarded in age, speed, and creativity categories - costumes are encouraged, and helmets are required! Make sure your cardboard box base only has cardboard and wax. The rest of the box can be decorated as you choose. You may register from 8:30 am - 10 am. Be on the hill at Polar Blast with your box at 10 am for judging.

Registration is $20 per person and includes a lift ticket, t-shirt, and bib. Spectators are welcomes and encouraged to attend this event. How often do you get treated to an exciting cardboard box race?


Hope Relay- Saturday 2/27 @ 10am

Gather your gang or we’ll get one together for you! Can’t ski or snowboard? No problem --you can join in at the snow tubing park, Polar Blast! Teams and individuals raise funds to help local children in need by pledging to have a team member on the snow during the day.

Registration is $35 and included is an all access lift ticket to three resorts; a t-shirt with your team name listed (if registered by Feb 3rd); a souvenir participant bib, and much, much more. Pre-registered participants receive an all-access lift ticket for the day to three resorts, free equipment rentals, a t-shirt with your team name listed a souvenir sports bib, a warm dinner, and more. Top fundraisers will be recognized in the Hope Closing Ceremonies. The Hope Relay is a great team activity for families, friends, and coworkers!


Mogul Comp-Satruday 2/27 @1pm

registration from 10am-noon.  Comp at 1pm.  Prizes from Budweiser, Monster, Buckeye Sports Center, Level One Productions, tickets to JFBB and much more.  Double elimination is the planned format!  Comp will be held on Tiger! $10Entry fee and must have helmet and complete liability release!

Big Air Contest - Saturday 2/27 @5pm on Tiger

Bring your best tricks to show the judges and the crowd for this head to head, single elimination competition! Winners will be awarded in each category: 10 - 17 and 18+; men’s and women’s; ski and snowboard. Judging will be based on amplitude, style, and execution.

Registration is $25 Saturday, February 27th, Boston Mills Resort for pro and $15 for
Am.  You could win a Monster Snowboard, Monster luggage, tickets to JFBB and much more.
Bring your helmets for this one. Practice starts at 4pm and contest to start around 5:30pm

Last years event had over 50 competitors participate in the big air and rail jam. This is an exciting event that you do not want to miss. So even if you don't strap in for the competition come join as one of the thousands of spectators who came down to the event last February to watch the big air, enjoy the free live entertainment with bands like the Fret Daddies, and local favorite music artists Zach and Rachel Roberts.


Wine Tasting & Silent Auction - Saturday 2/27 6pm-10pm

Warm up inside at the end of the day with a wide variety of passed hors d'oeuvres, fine wines and beer.  There is limited availability for this event, so be sure to sign up early!  Auction items this year include a signed J.J. Hickson basketball, vacation packages to sunny destinations, airline tickets, Disney Park-Hopper passes, Chicago theater tickets, children's items, sports items, and much more!  Join us again for some amazing prizes.  Auction items will close between 8:45pm and 9:45pm.  Be sure to stay to watch the illuminating torch light parade to follow at 10pm!

Appetizers presented by a selection of Northeast Ohio’s finest Executive Chefs including Lanny Chin of NAYA Bistro & Lounge.


Torch Light Parade- Saturday 2/27 @ 10pm

To honor all the courageous children who have faced a life-threatening condition, we will light up the night in a spectacular night time-torch light parade. Watch skiers glide down the slope, illuminating the nighttime sky with torches named in honor of children. This event serves as the capping ceremony for a truly meaningful day.  Sponsor a torch in honor of a child for $10. (Download torch sponsorship form here.)
