July 2nd - Roger Hoover and the Western Reserve - 2pm

( blues )

Roger Hoover’s plaintive brand of songs seem to come from some unknown time and place are steeped richly in the Southern-born Midwestern-raised Rust Belt roots. With Pastures Roger Hoover gives us what playwright Tyler Whidden calls, “songs that howl with the voices of the disenfranchised and heartbroken whose ghosts hang like shadows.” In a series of songs to lovers, friends, and family, Hoover weaves together diverse strands of experience, wilderness, love, work and wisdom, into a collection of songs that explores man’s relationship with himself, with nature, and with women.
Incorporating elements of country blues, Appalachian ballads, dirges and beyond, songwriter/guitarist Roger Hoover creates deliberate and haunting collections of sublimely rendered ballads and rousing dust-shakers. With every album released he’s also earned a reputation as a tireless, charismatic showman who performs with equal parts impassioned vocals and honest, heartfelt lyricism.
